Ferrum 0.1.9
Updates that reopen the window, links you can ctrl-click, a way to send a crash report, and an installer that fades.
An update reopens Ferrum. Since 0.1.6 the installer has been able to start the editor once the files are down, but an update ran the copy of the installer left beside the editor by whichever one first put Ferrum on the machine — and that copy predated the feature. The payload now carries the current installer, so from this update on the window comes back.
The download bar moves. It went from nought straight to a hundred: the throttle that keeps it from redrawing on every read only fired when a read ended on the exact byte a twentieth begins at, which is never. It reports every twentieth now.
A What's New page on the first start after an update. The release notes, as a page beside whatever else opened, once.
More than one commit can stay unfolded in the history. Opening a second closed the first, which made comparing two impossible.
Ctrl-click an address or a path. Hold ctrl over https://… in code or a
comment and it underlines; click and it opens in the browser. A path with a
separator in it — src/main.rs:12, absolute or under the project — opens in
the editor at the line it names, the way one printed in the terminal does.
Crash reports, only when you say. After a crash, the next launch shows a
card: Send posts the report — version, platform, thread, the panic message and
a backtrace with every path cut to its last two parts, nothing from your
files — and Don't send drops it. A crash_reports setting under Privacy can
make either answer standing.
Whitespace and relative line numbers. Two switches under Appearance: a dot for every space and an arrow for every tab, and lines numbered by their distance from the caret's.
Size the terminal to its content. Alt+Z, or Toggle Size to Content Width on a terminal tab's menu: wide output scrolls sideways instead of wrapping.
Smaller things. The Ferrum mark on Welcome and What's New tabs is
coloured; an empty split has the same … and split controls as a full one;
files of no known type show the plain-lines icon; the search and source
control panes are rounded like the files pane; clicking the empty rail no
longer moves the caret; every column keeps its own breadcrumb; the welcome
page lists five recent folders and a More… picker for the rest; picker rows
light under the pointer and its caret blinks; the preview's scrollbar reaches
the bottom.
The installer fades. Every screen change is a crossfade, the bar eases along, buttons light gently, and the window fades in rather than appears.
